US Military Standard Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK)
The Individual First Aid Kit increases individual warfighter capabilities to provide Self-Aid/Buddy-Aid and provides interventions for two leading causes of death on the battlefield, severe hemorrhage and inadequate airway.
The three primary lifesaving items in the IFAK are the CAT tourniquets, Celox Z-Fold Gauze, and Israeli Emergency Bandage.
The genuine CAT Tourniquet is a true one-handed tourniquet proven to be 100% effective by the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research and has saved countless lives. Tests proved that the CAT completely occluded blood flow of an extremity in the event of a traumatic wound with significant hemorrhage. The Gen 7 CAT utilizes a durable windlass system with a patented free-moving internal band providing true circumferential pressure to the extremity.
Celox Z Fold Gauze like all Celox blood clotting products have very high surface area chitosan flakes. When they come in contact with blood, Celox™ swells, gels, and sticks together to make a gel like plug. Celox™ blood clotting agent does not set off the normal clotting cascade, it only clots the blood it comes directly into contact with.
The Israeli Emergency Bandage is a combat proven first-aid device for the staunching of blood flow from traumatic hemorrhage wounds in pre-hospital situations. This 6″ wide, all-in-one device consolidates multiple first-aid devices such as a primary dressing, pressure applicator, and closure apparatus to secure the bandage in place.
The IFAK was issued to every deploying US Army soldier via the Rapid Fielding Initiative – and was a tremendous success. Weighing one pound, the IFAK consists of the following expendable medical items packaged inside of a quick access MOLLE pouch.
So far more than 900,000 IFAKs have been fielded to U.S. troops and have been instrumental in saving countless lives.

Today the kit is used by special forces medics operating behind enemy lines, far from aid stations and military medical facilities. The robust nature of the kit allows medics to stabilize and treat multiple patients until they can be medivacked, or follow-on caregivers arrive.
The SMK is packaged in our custom designed MOLLE Tactical Medical Pouch. This bag’s compact design is perfect for storing a complete first aid kit (IFAK) for a single person. Additionally, the outside MOLLE webbing can be used to secure various modular attachments, chem-lights, tourniquets, and other helpful accessories. Prompt deployment is a priority with this medical bag’s design.
